4, rue Ste. Catherine, 2002

The footage is filmed from the window of the flat where the artist lived in Nantes, France. During three days the artist left the camera pointed towards the garbage container on the street and caught about fifty people coming to pee behind it. The five hours worth of videotapes were edited into a 35 minutes-long film. Peeing is quite present in the history of art with the numerous fountains sculptures, paintings, Duchamp’s urinal and the countless "re-makes" of his work by contemporary artists. The film is shot from a high viewpoint, which provides a distance and a kind of anonymity. The video is certainly humorous but also uncomfortable in its aspect of voyeurism and stalking.
