The practice of air guitar has transformed through the decades from a fun and personal way to engage with music, even without being able to play an instrument, to a subculture phenomenon with its own championships. Inspired by the democratisation of art such a practice offers, and by its clear performative potential, Ivan Moudov invented a similar form for the visual arts. The Air Drawing Contest, 2013 is a participatory performance in which the artist invites people from the audience to create a work of art on stage. The performance is organized and presented as a contest and has a jury, who is entitled to give three prizes: 1.000 Euro cash, the acquisition of the work by the museum or a one way ticket to Sofia. Every possible media, genre and style are allowed under the only condition that they should be perfromed on stage without any props, using only the performer’s body.
