Already Made 3 (Pissoir), 2007

A urinal is installed on a public bathroom wall and connected, not to the plumbing system, but to a transparent glass bottle. As most of Moudov’s work, which interpret the question of the readymade, this piece is also a direct reference to Marcel Duchamp. If Duchamp submitted a urinal as a work of art to an exhibition jury, Moudov brings it back to its utilitarian purposes, however with a twist. The art public is confronted not only with the object but with its actual function, which is here rendered utterly transparent. We are presented with the outcome  - the urine - as a sort of an embarrassing surplus, a banal bodily consequence of radical ideas.
