Certificate of Name Giving, 2013

Taking the role of a godfather Ivan Moudov gives names to the untitled artworks in museum collections. The work consists of documents – name-giving certificates - designed, issued and signed by the artist. The act of choosing a name is random. The artist uses different texts as a source material, words and phrases of which become the title. Arranged one next to the other, the certificates can be read as quotations.

The work has been shown in 2013 at Galerija Gregor Podnar, Lubljana with certificates of Untitled the works from the collection of Moderna Galerija Ljubljana, and original text source coming from a botanical book; and in 2014 at Galerie Alberta Pane, Paris with certificates of the Untitled works from the collection of Centre Pompidou and an original text source from a footnote in the publication “Interface Sofia” of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Sofia.
