No Title (Fridge), 2004

An old refrigerator is cut into pieces, which are then reassembled inside-out.  The resulting object is a mysterious DYI machine, something between a robot prototype and an orgone accumulator. The artistic gesture here touches upon a long tradition of understaning art and spirituality as accessing the hidden, the internal, the intimate. Here we have an enlightened fridge, shining all of its innermost being to the outside world. The re-enchantement of the world of everyday banality comes at the price of the functionality of the fridge, which can now serve only as an object of aesthetic contemplation.
