Right Hand, Middle Finger, 2012.
The raised middle finger is considered a symbol of rebellion and resistance. At the same time, the fingerprint constitutes the artist’s personal biometric data, information subject to systems of control. By precisely reproducing the fingerprint using industrial technology, Moudov contrasts individual freedom with mechanisms of surveillance. The fingerprint also functions as a self portrait, positioning the individual self against systems of control.
